Frequently asked questions
New to Cub Scouting, or just checking us out? Here are answers to the questions we hear most from prospective Pack 41 families.
Can we visit a meeting before we join?
Absolutely, and we hope you do! New families are always welcome to drop in on a Tuesday meeting before signing up, with no commitment. Come see what a den does, meet the leaders, and let your child get a feel for it. There’s no better way to know if Pack 41 is a fit for your family.
How do we join?
When you’re ready, you can register online through Scouting America in just a few minutes. Register for Pack 41 here.
There’s a one-time $25 joining fee for new Scouts on top of annual membership (see costs below). Not sure yet? Just visit a meeting first. You can always sign up afterward.
What does it cost?
Annual membership is $145 for the year: $85 to Scouting America national plus $60 to our Simon Kenton Council. New Scouts also pay a one-time $25 joining fee.
Pack 41 doesn’t collect any extra dues. We cover pack expenses through our annual popcorn fundraiser, and Scouts can even earn back their membership fees by selling. If cost is ever a barrier, scholarships are available for both membership and uniforms. Just ask a leader, or see the Simon Kenton scholarship form.
What’s the uniform, and where do we get it?
Scouts wear a Class A uniform to den meetings and outings: a scout shirt and neckerchief. Shirts are blue for grades 1–4 and tan for 5th graders; our youngest Scouts, the Lions (kindergarten), wear a Lion t-shirt.
We keep a stash of gently-used uniforms passed down from past Scouts, available at one of our first meetings. New uniforms can be purchased at the Simon Kenton Scout Shop, and uniform scholarships are available if cost is a concern.
What does a typical Tuesday meeting look like?
Meetings run from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. We open all together in the church sanctuary with a flag ceremony and announcements, then break into dens by grade for the rest of the hour. In their dens, Scouts work on adventures: crafts, games, science, the outdoors, and more.
About once a month, the whole pack gathers for a Pack Meeting to play games and celebrate everyone’s achievements together.
How involved do parents need to be?
Quite involved, and that’s the best part. A parent or grown-up (your Scout’s “adult partner”) stays for the whole meeting and takes part right alongside their child. Scouts with engaged parents get the most out of Scouting.
Every leader in Pack 41 is a parent volunteer, so the pack truly runs on families pitching in. To take part in activities, parents complete free online Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT).
How do you keep my child safe?
Safety is at the core of our program. All leaders complete Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) and pass background checks, and we follow “two-deep leadership”: no Scout is ever alone with an adult who isn’t their own parent or guardian.
We strongly encourage every attending adult to complete SYT (it is required for campouts), and each Scout keeps a medical form on file that we bring to activities. That is just Parts A & B of the Annual Health and Medical Record; Pack 41 activities don’t require Part C.
Do we have to be religious? Is Pack 41 inclusive?
Pack 41 proudly welcomes families of all genders, faiths, and backgrounds. Scouting America’s “Duty to God” is non-sectarian: we help Scouts grow their character and reverence (respect for others and the world around them) in a way that fits your own family’s values.
Everyone is welcome here, and we’re committed to an environment where every family feels respected and able to take part fully.
Who runs Pack 41?
The pack is led entirely by parent volunteers: a Cubmaster, a den leader for each grade, and a committee of parents who keep things running. As of 2026, Pack 41 is chartered by the Clintonville Rotary, whose community-service mission lines up closely with ours.
We meet at North Broadway United Methodist Church, which generously hosts us, though the church and the pack operate independently.
